The 1D comparator in use at INRIM for measurements of diameter gauges, end standards and linear artefacts has been revised and partly modified in connection with three inter-laboratory comparisons on diameter gauges and linear artefacts including a step gauge and a linescale. The uncertainty components due to geometrical effects have been minimized. The overall achievements are demonstrated by the consistent results obtained in the comparisons.
